Elizabeths Sports Day Report
House pride was high on Friday when excited pupils piled onto the field for a fun-filled day of sports and house activities. Andrewes were determined to defend their title; Otter and King preparing for a sudden victory. Ridgeway and Sherborne were planning to climb the table and Burrows and Wilson keeping up their steady progression. Once again, Story were trying to defy the odds and finish in the lead. A rainbow of puoils dressed in an array of House colours took their places in their pens and prepared for a glorious win.
The day started off grey, but the conditions began to slowly improve approaching the first event of the day. Spirits were high as Story took an early lead, but, quickly after, Ridgeway began to gain ground on them. Otter was not so successful, despite their best efforts.
A charity cake sale was held by King later on in the day, to raise money for their House charity, an organisation to support women with breast cancer. It was successful, with many cakes being sold and a large sum of money being donated. We hope that the money will be put to good use and are proud in the knowledge that the sale stood as a reminder to us, on this happy day, that some are not as fortunate and cannot afford the luxuries that we are accustomed to.
As the day of sports progressed, so did the tension. The stakes were high and the desire to win was like a palpable fog in the air. Andrewes and Burrows were close, but Story was proving a formidable enemy – and King was not far behind!
The afternoon arrived, and, after what felt like weeks of waiting, Sports Day was rapidly drawing to a close. Burrows was in the lead, with Story a near second, but, in the end, it would be Andrewes to triumph.
There was laughter, there were tears, and there was a lot of running, but, in the end, Sports Day 2017 will be remembered as a year of tense competition, exemplary sporting endeavours and slightly bad weather.
