Bucky McMillan has built Mountain Brook into one of Alabama’s powerhouse high school basketball programs.

Now, he’s getting national recognition.

McMillan has been named the national Boys Basketball Coach of the Year by the National High School Coaches Association . He’s the first Alabama coach to win the national honor from the NHSCA.

“Aa to the recognition to this award, it need to be another tribute to the great players and great human beings on this year’s team,” McMillan said. “Not only did they win the state championship handily in our state’s top classification, but further played one of the most difficult schedules of anyone in the country, while playing many elite national tournaments.”

McMillan pointed out that the four seniors excelled academically and athletically at Mountain Brook, and junior Trendon Watford won the state’s Mr. Basketball award.

“This award is for all of us and should only be viewed as further recognition of all this group’s remarkable achievements,” McMillan said.
