I worked at Metabolic Research Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I loved working one on one with the clients and being a part of their weight loss journey. I also enjoyed getting to know my co-workers. By the end of my employment with MRC I felt like I had another family.

    Cons

You usually have to work some Saturdays. Sometimes you have periods where the center is slow which can get boring.

    Advice to Management

It would be nice to be offered more leadership roles other than just the manager and assistant manager positions. This would give you the option to promote more from within.

I have been working at Metabolic Research Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Laid back atmosphere, meeting customers

    Cons

Pay is horrible (average $12/hr), manager takes all walk ins and sales, long hours spent harassing people to come in, high pressure sales, products are overpriced and horrible- loaded with fake sugar and chemicals. The diet is also bad and not balanced for lifestyle changes at all. Medical programs are gross, really Phentermine and pumping in pregnancy hormones? How is that healthy??
Finally very high turnover rate of any company I’ve ever worked for.

    Advice to Management

News flash- you make a salary and we make pretty close to minimum wage don’t steal all the sales. Try leaning about nutrition. Stop making us harass people nonstop to get YOU sales.

I worked at Metabolic Research Center part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Rewarding work helping clients assist in their goals. There is an opportunity for great commissions IF you have good upper management support. Great manager- when I was working there.

    Cons

Poor supervisor support for my location. A will them in the door mentality with very little marketing support or solid advice on performance and growth. New manager will steal your sales. Condescending supervisors. Not all managers/ supervisors are the same in all locations- work for the ones with a keen business mindset. Ask telling questions to depict their capability. May promise training, but will not provide.

    Advice to Management

Do not steal your employees commissions. Do not speak to them condescendingly. Give valid and constructive feedback. Build your employees up. If your employee asks for assistance on growth- growing a diagram of a stomach will not help. We need honest and constructive feedback on our performance. If you invest in marketing do not assume it worked and you targeted the correct audience- ask your manager and staff. There is a thing as qualified leads.

    Pros

None , well I have to write 30 words here but I have nothing good to say. You will be asked to work way more than you are scheduled and you will be weighed and measured every month or every week if management thinks your too fat. Im talking ridiculous expectations.

    Cons

High sales pressure , cant offer clients real life advise and must stick to THIER ridiculous eating plan of about 900 calories. Anyone with a real medical background knows thats not healthy. You have to bug you clients every time they are in to buy more and more pills! They are taking 30 plus a day ! Spending hundreds of dollars. Your trained to make up false info in the lobby so prospective clients can over hear fake results. Your also trained to make them cry and break them down for THIER own good. Coming from a real background in weight loss and nutrition this place is a joke. If you go in as a client expect to spend thousands.
Also THIER isnt really any commission, I sold the most at my location and only made an extra $100 bucks a check and if your not a size 0 they will fat shame you as an emloyee.

    Advice to Management

There isnt any advice these money grubbers would listen too. Run dont walk away from this place.

    Pros

    Fabulous program,great success for clients!

    Cons

Disrespectful upper management who dont give a damn about their employees! Bring in the money they want more, bring in the clients they want more, managers make a base salary and never get a yearly reveiw, never get a raise and never get any positive feedback! I know managers who are still getting the same base salary who have been with the company for 10 years! So sad so sad! I would never recommend this company not even to my worst enemy! I worked for a supervisor who took pleasure in ridicule and constant negative behavior towards her employees, and played favorites month in and month out!

    Advice to Management

You can give all the advice you want for change,no one will listen!

I worked at Metabolic Research Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The ladies who worked with me were lovely. Some of the clients became my friends.

    Cons

1.. The pay was awful, and although I was classified as full-time, they often cut my hours down to ~28 per week.

    2. No health insurance. No retirement/401k. Basically, no benefits at all.

    3. Their corporate blinders had a negative impact on the clients. For example, if a client had a menu or food question, we were not allowed to contact the dietitian – first, we had to ask our manager, and our managers had to ask their manager, who had to ask their supervisor. What a waste! Whats the point of having a staff dietitian if contact with this person is forbidden?

    4. MRC also gave me trouble when future employees attempted to verify that I worked at the center. I was told by the background check company that after several attempts to contact the entity, we have been unable to verify your employment. After calling the center myself, I was informed that they simply forgot to process the background check companys request.

    Advice to Management

Get off your high horse. Youre money hungry and disconnected from those who are doing your dirty work. Youre disorganized, spiteful, and manipulative.

    Pros

Metabolic research provides great knowledge about the body and the use of food to seek weight loss results. Lots of relationships are also built with clients there.

    Cons

Store level management does not contribute to the integrity of the mission statement of the company. Upper management does not inforce store level management or hold them accountable for quality and integrity of running a business.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach and dont expect others to work if you arent willing to work yourself.

    Pros

I loved working with the clients. II was always top in sales at my store and did very well. I enjoyed my manager and the people I worked with a lot.

    Cons

There was never any trouble until we were sold and bought out by corporate. Our new regional management was absolutely awful! Their favorite thing to do was belittle you until you put in your notice. There is no room for advancement at all, even though I was told I would be promoted to full time I never was. They loved to feed you lines like everything there was so great. They sure did want you to work like you were making millions, but in reality you are getting the same amount as McDonalds workers with no health benefits.

    Advice to Management

Would be nice to have more recognition for being so good at my job. I really took pride in it before the switch in Regional Management.

I worked at Metabolic Research Center full-time

    Pros

I LOVED helping people lose weight. Many people just have no idea what the correct steps are to get themselves down on the scale. Watching people succeed everyday was a great boost for me. Company really does care about the clients success and doing what is necessary to make each one special.

    Cons

Its busy early, and its busy late. Not very much to do during the day time hours and we often just had to many people scheduled to work the floor. Scheduling consultations late means youre probably stuck there late. Despite the center closing at 7, you will be stuck there til 8 some nights. I also felt like the company tried to nickel and dime the employees any chance they got.

    Advice to Management

My manager was fantastic. Great leader, great advice, great attitude. As far as us being promoted, not many opportunities for that. There is room for raises in your hourly, but not much. On top of that, the top hourly pay for consultants is still not great.

    Pros

Their intention is good, however misguided. Their ideas monthly to bring in clients and retain them was immature at best. Their silly attempts at doing cute monthly themed things was exhausting and not very rewarding.

    Cons

The center I worked for was headed by one of three sisters that worked for Metabolic. The younger sister consistantly made more than anyone else and got all of the good leads.

    Advice to Management

Neptism is never a good idea.
