Dordt College Concert Choir comes to Holland
Posted 7 May 2015
The Concert Choir tours annually throughout the United States and Canada, and has been invited to perform as the featured choir at the Northwest Iowa Choral Directors’ Association High School Choral Festival in multiple years, as well as for regional conferences of the American Choral Directors Association in 2004, 2006, and 2010. This year they’re also going to Holland. Their tour has been organized by Witte Travel, Grand Rapids.
Dordt College is a Christian college in the Reformed tradition, located in the town of Sioux Center, Iowa, USA. Founded in 1955 as Midwest Christian Junior College it became Dordt College in 1957. The name Dordt was chosen to honor and recognize the Reformed Calvinist heritage.
Since the early days of Dordt College, the Concert Choir has been recognized as a musical ambassador of the institution. The choir continues its tradition of excellence to this day, performing significant and varied literature from the choral repertoire. Recent performances have included such works as Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb, Bach’s Magnificat and Vivaldi’s Gloria (both with the Dordt College Chamber Orchestra) and Borodin’s Polovetsian Dances (with the Sioux County Oratorio and the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra); the choir also joined with the Sioux County Oratorio to perform Haydn’s Missa in tempore belli, and with the Sioux City Symphony, performing Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana.
