How to Clear the Twitter Cache on iPhone and Free Up Space

Posted by Ali Hassan Mahdi on Apr 14, 2017 in How To , Twitter

Twitter is a popular social networking service where you can post short tweets, share images and videos, broadcast live videos , and do much more. It is also one of the places where you will literally waste your time scrolling to your feed viewing memes and watching funny videos.

If you have Twitter on your iPhone, you may have noticed that the app quickly loads the content that you’ve previously viewed and these content can even be viewed in offline mode. This is because Twitter caches the data to avoid having to re-download them every time you open the app. Examples of data that are cached include photos, GIFs, cookies and much more.

While caching enhances the user experience and reduces data usage, it also occupies some storage space on your iPhone. Over time, the cached data can increase in size to take up a large space. Therefore, it’s a good idea to clear the Twitter cache every once in a while to save some storage space.

Here’s how you can view the size of the Twitter cache and clear it on iPhone.

How to Clear the Twitter Cache on iPhone

Step 1: Open the Twitter app.

Step 2: Tap on the Me tab.

Step 3: Tap on the gear icon and choose Settings.

Step 4: Open Data Usage.

Step 5: Under the Storage section, you’ll find Media storage and Web storage options. Next to each, you can view the amount of storage that they are occupying on your device.

Step 6: Open Media storage and tap on the Clear media storage button to remove the cached photo, GIF, and Vine data.

Step 7: Go back previous screen and open Web storage. Press the Clear all web storage button to remove all the web data such as cookies and logins.

This will clear all the cached Twitter data on your iPhone and free the space that they were occupying. This also means that Twitter now has to re-downloaded all those data if you attempt to view them because they no longer exist in the cache.

In the age of Twitter meltdowns and navigating the minefield of ancient tweets coming back from the dead to haunt you, it’s not uncommon to want to nuke your Twitter history. Free and paid services like TweetDelete, TwitWipe and TweetDeleter will even do it for you automatically if you’re not up to the task yourself.

Luckily, deleting your personal search history on Twitter is a whole lot easier than that. Clearing your recent searches might not save you from a Twitter roasting, but it could definitely spare you a few awkward conversations from anyone who might have access to your account. Even if your search history is shame-free, Twitter uses your recent searches to generate content suggestions for you, so it’s useful to clear it out when you want a fresh start. And whether you’re using Twitter on desktop or mobile devices, you definitely won’t need a separate service to make that fresh start.

    Twitter on Desktop

    Navigate to the Search Box

Head over to Twitter on desktop at Twitter.com, and log into the account with the search history you’d like to erase. On the right-hand side of the navigation bar at the top of the site – next to your round profile icon and the big “Tweet” button – you’ll see the search box, which says “Search Twitter.”

    Clear Your History

Click on “Search Twitter” to bring up a drop-down list of your recent searches. To remove individual search queries from your history, click the “X” next to each search term. Searches you delete won’t appear as a search suggestions again (unless you search for them again) when you use Twitter on desktop or mobile. To wipe your entire recent search history, click “Clear” next to “Recent Searches.”

    Twitter on Mobile

    Find the Search Function

Launch the Twitter app from your Android or iOS device, and log into the account associated with the search history you’d like to delete. From the menu of icons at the bottom of the app’s home screen, tap the magnifying glass to open the search page.

    Delete Your Searches

Tap the box that says “Search Twitter” at the top of the app’s screen. This displays a drop-down list of your most recent searches.

Tap the “X” symbol next to any specific recent searches you’d like to delete from your history – like “kittens in hats” or “extreme cake makers.” To wipe out all of the recent searches stored on your Twitter account, tap the “X” symbol next to “Recent” at the top of the drop-down list.
